Since my arrival in August, I have been so impressed by how well-mannered and polite the students are to adults and among each other.  It is a true testament to strength of the parents/guardians that are raising these students and to the implementation of the home-grown Character Education program at Wells. 

As an educator for nearly twenty years, I have been fortunate to work in a variety of settings and school districts throughout the state.  I have to say that what Dublin USD offers its students is top notch and should not be assumed to be the same as everywhere else. 

This year, our focus is on math and trying to get as many students as possible to demonstrate proficiency on the state accountability assessment (CSTs) that students will take in May.  To that end, we are offering a Math Center (staffed by parent volunteers) on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in H-21.  We are also running an AIM program specifically for struggling students on Wednesdays after school from 3:10-4:40pm.   Beginning in January, students will be invited to attend Saturday Math Academy classes that will focus on specific essential standards that the child is missing.

In addition, the math department is putting together a series of Parent Math Nights timed to be offered at the start of every new chapter.  The nights are designed to give parents a preview of what and how the students will be taught the material.  Parents get to leave the night with a packet of information regarding the vocabulary, types of problems, and ways to get additional on-line help.  The parents will get to practice the problems in an attempt to “shake the cob webs out” and be able to better help their child at home.  I hope that you can make it out to the series.
