HOW TO EARN EXTRA CREDIT Extra Credit
By Karen Miller You may earn a MAXIMUM of 50 credits per semester. If you plan to return to Dublin High School, you must complete a minimum of one full semester as a senior at DHS in order to graduate from there. You must take English and either Civics/Econ at DHS if you transfer back as a senior. Credits above 120 may not transfer back to DHS. “A” Period: Students must apply for this course with approval from all 5 of your classroom teachers. Good attendance and work habits are a pre-requisite for A Period. Students are required to meet with their teacher a minimum of once a week. Work is taken home and completed at your own pace. Grades/Credits are done quarterly. Regional Occupation program (ROP) – 5 to 10 credits per class. See the counselor/principal for more information. Work Experience – 3 to 5 credits per semester; this is done with Donita. You may be required to attend weekly meetings for this program. 40 hours of work AND class meetings equal 1 unit of credit. You may earn up to 20 units for work experience. Independent PE; for students who belong to a gym. 3-5 credits per semester; See the Liz (counselor) for details. Class trip to Washington D.C. – 5 elective credits. The trip takes place in the fall through the Close-Up program. Teacher Aide – 5 credits per semester; See Counselor or any teacher for details. This can be done at Wells, DHS or VHS and other elementary schools as arranged. Leadership – Time outside of class may be logged for extra units. OUTSIDE OF VALLEY: Summer School – 5 credits maximum at DHS; surrounding school districts offer other credit scenarios. Concurrent Enrollment in College – 1 college credit equals 3 high school credits; see counselor/principal for details. Availability changes from year to year. Peer tutoring – 5-10 credits available tutoring other students at a neighboring school, i.e. Wells, elementary, pre-school. Other options such as community service may be approved through prior arrangement with the principal. |
